Dude did you even LOOK at the damned Patch notes?
And the reason other MMO's take so little time is that they are deploying onto a server that is only large enough for a few thousand people on it. CCP's servers are a lot larger, and take more time.
Plus, if CCP can't get the servers back up on time, it affects EVERY EVE player. Where as something like WOW, if one of their servers doesn't work, it only affects like 2K people.
I looked over some of the patch notes, that was on the eve website. Other than making some minor changes to couple classes of ships, I didnt see anything that takes the amount of time that they going to take. As i said, its one thing to add a massive amount of new stuff but another when it just makes minor changes of existing stuff. Its not as if they adding 200 totally new ships, 500 new systems, charaters that can leave their ship and walk on planets, stations, ect.
Also if you add in the number of servers other games have, and the sub-servers its just as much and in many cases larger than the eve servers. And when those other games do expansions, they have to check each server and sub-server.
Also to note, its not as if they writing the code to the servers line by line, they uploading the code that been written months and weeks ago that would only require a reboot and some stability testing to ensure the patch is working as intended. Its really no different than you updating your computer hardware, software and doing a reboot to activate the new changes. And that dont take you almost a day to do.
The only thing that would take any time is the download to clients computers and much of that would depend they type of internet connection you have and how many connection they can handle at one time.
So again this should take no more than 3 or 4 hours at most.
are you a programmer? a devolper? are you even a game designer?
